Well, I told you I’d finish this story. I didn’t want to wait because I might forget something. I’m pretty smart, if I do say so myself, but Mom says I still have a lot to learn.
I learned about the “D” River that second day at the ocean. It was pretty puny when we were there, but it was early in the morning. So early, no one else was on the beach. Well, almost no one. Toby II and I checked out this river. Mom let me go in it–she said the water was fresh, or at least fresher than the ocean. But it wasn’t very deep. And there was a huge stump we got to climb! That was fun.
Mom said I still had to wear a leash. Mom was on the ball, even that early in the morning. She had a really long leash; a really, really long one–30 whole feet! It’s almost like I’m free! Except when I get to racing, then I have to stop really quick. Toby II had one too, so we thought we were pretty special!
We had two walks on that beach that day. My Dad came on the second one–he said he had to stay in bed for the first one. Didn’t he know what he was missing? ME. He said he was missing sleep because of me. What did I do?
I saw some ducks in the ocean. Mom said it was a tidal pool. I say ocean. I still can’t get in it, so who cares?
We thought they were gulls, but they flew away when we got close. They were ducks! Oregon DUCKS !! Silly ducks. Why didn’t they wait for me?
That day was my Mom’s birthday, so I had to be extra good. She told me so. And I WAS! I was so good! That was my birthday present to her. I thought it was a really good one. Don’t you?
Maybe we can go back? I hope so……
