Monday Mischief: The Dog Catcher

I was full of mischief today. First I went over to my friends Toby and Macy’s house and found a bone on the floor. I forgot to ask Macy whether I could chew it or not, but she pretty much tolerates everything I do to her. She doesn’t let other dogs do the stuff I do to her (sometimes I can be a brat), but she’s known me since I was a tiny puppy.

We swapped bones after a while…she’s a really good friend!

Then we went to Mt. Tabor to the dog park.

Mom didn’t take a ball…she said I had to interact with other dogs for a change. I thought maybe doing a ball dance would work, but then I saw a squirrel and decided to chase it.

Up and outside the unfenced part of the dog park.

I came back…I always know where Mom is…but someone thought I was lost.

She told Mom there was a dog catcher up there. Mom said she didn’t think I’d like solitary confinement.

That was a lot of mischief for one day. Even if I didn’t find a mud-puddle!

A Poppy Weekend

I’ve missed all of you, but I’m back!

Mom’s been doing something called “Poppy-proofing” the house so she hasn’t allowed me on her computer. For a whole week. I didn’t know what that was all about, but I was about to find out. That little baby came back to see me and since I don’t see little babies very often, I had to do a lot of sniffin’.

It’s funny how babies smell different from bigger humans. It was a good smell though, so I decided she was going to be part of my pack. And I wasn’t going to let her out of my sight…wherever Poppy went, I went too. Even when I took her to the park where I play ball. I know you probably think I’m silly for turning down some ball playing, but when Poppy went back to the car so she could have a bottle, I told Mom “that was enough…little Poppy needs me with her“. And I left. And went back to the car too. MOM! Are you coming?

We went to the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden yesterday. There were ducks and geese EVERYWHERE. Of course, they were all on the bank until I got there. I wonder what scared them?It was fun watching them (actually, I wanted to get in that lake with them). But, I did sneak a little belly wetting time in this pond. (Don’t tell anyone!)

Mom! There’s more ducks over there. Can I chase them? Just a little? Puleeze???

She wouldn’t let me…I don’t know what’s up with that? I thought I was a herding dog.

Sage, there are rules.

Poppy left a while ago to go home. I already miss her! But I gave her a kiss goodbye.

Beach? Here I Come!!

Yesterday was beach day….finally. So, pull up that beach chair and get relaxed, because there is a lot to tell you!

I went with my furiends Toby II and Macy. It was cozy…all of us in one car…but that just made it all the more fun. Of course, there’s always the potty stop along the way. We pulled into this logging road and got out.

Hey, Mom! Check this tree stump out.

It must be a million feet wide! It even has trees growing out of it. I wanted to go sniff it out, but Toby II and Macy were anxious to get to the beach.

Onward we went, arriving at our destination of fun!

One of the first things we found was a turtle. This turtle was just covered with so much sand and I just knew it wanted to get out. I was good, though, and left it alone.

And then Mom found 4 perfect sand dollars. Unbroken ones are really hard to find, so she was l..u..c..k..y!!

.

.

I found a crab. Does that count?

Toby II and I had a little crazy spell, but we had a whole beach to do it in. Look at me, Toby! I can jump higher than you!!Here’s a little video of me playing ball. What would I ever do without a ball??????

By this time, I was a bit pooped, so I dug a hole. I thought that turtle was pretty cool, so I wanted to see what it was like to be covered in sand.

Toby II  thought my hole was pretty cool–I like to share my hole digging projects–but he didn’t think he wanted to be a sandy turtle.

Like all good things, it had to come to an end. But not before a bit of fish (salmon) and chips (what else would you get when you go to the coast?) Oh…all right…chowder, clams, oysters, crab…..

Our lunch came with a little river entertainment.

The end of a perfect day….

What Does This Mean?

I try to take really, really good care of my hair with lots of mud baths and dirt rolls (actually, sometimes I find something really stinky for my rolls). So, while I was doing a little girly preening,

I turned and called: “MOOOOOOOOOOM. Come quick. NOWWWWWLook back here. Is this what I think it is? What’s a girl suppose to do?

I know!

No worries!

What do Baths have to do with Slugs?

I guess, in my case at least, a lot! You see, it rains a LOT in Oregon, but summer is a..l..m..o..s..t here and they’re (*they* being the weather people) saying it’ll be a hot one this year. But we have some pretty cool places to hike.

I think my crowning achievement was about to come.

But, first, we saw this slug. This is probably a “banana slug”, but I sure wouldn’t want to eat it. They sure grow big here in Oregon!

But, you ask, what does that have to do with anything? Well, water grows big slugs and what else?

MUD-PUDDLES!!!

Yes, I found a mud-puddle. (Mom said I could find water in the desert…I wonder if I could get a job as a divining rod?)

The only problem with Powell Butte is that there are no rivers or ponds. I promised to stay in one place in the car and not move and not get the car any dirtier and not shake and not get any more mud on Mom. Pshew…that was a lot of nots!!

I think my mud-bath was one of the best yet! I even got to try out my friend’s new outdoor tub.

Worked pretty well!

Pee Ess: Just in case you’re thinking that’s not a lot of mud, Mom took the hose to me before she’d let me get in the new tub….
