Reed Canyon

We live just a few blocks from Reed College, which maintains a 28-acre nature preserve on the campus grounds. This canyon contains the watershed of Crystal Springs, a waterway that flows into Johnson Creek and eventually into the Willamette River (that’s where I go swimming a lot, you know). Well, you also know Mom’s been bored with where we’ve gone lately, which doesn’t bother me a bit! It means more adventures for little ol’ Sage.

So, off we went. Down into the canyon. Of course, Mom forgot her camera, so the picture quality is totally dependent on her phone. (including any ‘red-eye’…I’m not really a zombie  🙂 )© sagechronicles.wordpress.comReed Lake is home to lots of different critters (beaver, otter and a coyote or two) but all we saw were a few ducks.

And a pesky squirrel

We saw lots of foliage. Mom tasted the red berries, but she said they were tasteless.

Me? I chomped down on some grass. Much better flavor!© sagechronicles.wordpress.comWe walked over the fish ladder Reed installed a few years ago.© sagechronicles.wordpress.comSalmon have started coming back to Reed Lake to spawn, but we didn’t see any.

© sagechronicles.wordpress.comIt’s a nice walk and not far from home. We don’t go often, but it’s always fun to hope we’ll see one of those critters one day.

Pee Ess: There is no fur-wetting here. Mom keeps me on a leash, but that’s OK. I sometimes like to take that kind of walk with Mom.
