Saturday Mish-Mash

Some of you wonder whether I get a lot of baths and the short answer is “no”. Usually we’re at a river or some water source where I can get cleaned off before coming home. But I had the bath of the century last Wednesday after rolling in the stinkiest, vilest stuff ever (that’s what Mom said). Me? I thought it was one of the best rolls yet! Except I was taken immediately to the dog bath store and Mom kept washing me and washing me and washing me…for a whole half hour and an entire bottle of Filthy Dog shampoo. Mom said I smelled a lot better. That’s her opinion. Not mine. Oh, and Mom said there would be no pictures, even though my skin was scrubbed pink :).

We spent a quiet 4th of July…ribs on the grill and a little ball play in the back yard. Then the fireworks started. Usually I’m not affected by the noise, but half of Portland must have bought all the illegal fireworks to be had. It sounded like WWIII in my neighborhood, with bottle rockets and sonic booms going off for hours and hours. Well, I freaked out. Mom didn’t have a Thundershirt, but put my winter coat on me because it fits tight around my chest. Didn’t work. I finally crawled under the bed. And someone shot some off at 2am last night. Another night under the bed…..

Yesterday, we went to the river and I played and played in the water. © sagechronicles.wordpress.comChecking out floating trees.

I had to see what this tree was doing im MY river.

Playing a little ball.

Play ball!

                                                                   Play ball!

And watching this couple and their dog paddling up the river on their boards.

This lab loves riding the board!

The man said his dog just crawled up on his board one day and has ridden ever since. I don’t think I’d ever get on one of those things. Would you?

  1. I’m so sorry about that yucky bath experience Sage…I don’t know what’s wrong with a little stinky dead thing smell…Hoomins are so picky! Also sorry you got scared at the fireworks…Momz & I are signed up for a doggie paddleboard day in September…But first I have to learn to swim…I don’t know but Momz sez it will be fun

  2. That all looks like soooooooo much fun! Tell your mom that stinky stuff was just dog perfume factory, BOL. For us, the smellier the better, unless it’s that black with a white stripped animal that really rips some smelly ones, even for us. Wag wag, Max & Bella

  4. I don’t like the fireworks either. Mama took me out when I was one to the New Years Fireworks at the neighbors house…it was just too much for me.
As for those water boards…I would do it for sure, but only with my mama of daddy.

  5. Sage-
Looks like fun down on the river! I get in the raft with my mom, so I would probably get on a paddle board with her too. Somebody has to take care of her…BOL

P.S. Don’t tell no doggy, but I’m skeered of fireworks too.

  6. There are a couple of things that some humans will never ever understand. 1) A stinky dog is a happy dog. 2) Fireworks can be very frightening for a lot of dogs. I’m glad you enjoyed your roll in whatever stinky vile thing you happened to find, and I am very sorry that you had to endure the obnoxious fireworks.

  7. If Daisy could take one minute off from barking while swimming she’d hop on the paddle board but very unlikely! The pic of you with that tree is funny! Do tell us what you rolled in to have to take a trip to the bath place!

    • You probably don’t want to know. 🙂 I usually have her on a leash after leaving the river at 1000 Acres (just because of the mud puddles), but they weren’t coming up for a while. She was playing with a young German Shepherd and they went off trail, which is where she found it. It wasn’t something dead and Sage doesn’t roll in other dog’s poop. Let’s just say, she did a good job of it.

  8. Ugh, the dreaded B-A-T-H. I just had one and posted about it too. Ick! I see dogs here riding the paddle boards all the time. I don’t like to swim so I cannot imagine I would like to paddle board.
