A Quilt, Baby & Me

I thought I was the baby in this family, but I heard Mom and Dad talking about a new baby girl that’s coming in just a few weeks and is going to live in a place called San Francisco. That’s where my hu-sis lives (that would be Mom and Dad’s daughter) with her husband. So, Mom has been busy making a quilt for the baby’s room. She was in her sewing room a lot, which sorta took some time out from ball-playing, but that’s OK. I got to sleep some more.
Mom here: I saw a picture of a quilt similar to this and had to design one using my daughter’s color scheme.  I made 1/4 inch bias strips using a Clover bias tape maker. After ironing the strips to the background, I applique-stitched around all the pieces;and finished the quilt with some simple echo quilting around the rectangles and squares and free-motioned stars on the borders.

Gee, that was really neat, Mom, but now you got the suitcases out–maybe I can stow away in one. No? I can’t go? I guess that means I’m going to jail my favorite indoor dog park, Fido’s. I was pretty sad, but I heard things are getting even worse. When this little girl is born, Mom is leaving me for a whole month and Dad will be in charge. But Mom said we can talk on Skype! Maybe it won’t be so bad after all…..Powered by Linky Tools

Friday Sniffs

We went to this great dog park not far from our house. It’s at the base of an extinct volcano and there’s a big reservoir at the top. We didn’t go up there, but that’s OK. You KNOW what I do around water, although Mom just whispered in my ear that I can’t get near the reservoir. I think they are just plain party-poopers, right?

Anyhow, this dog park isn’t fenced all the way around, so Mom was a bit nervous. I know, she can put me on a leash. And I have to most of the time, but she keeps testing me. I think I’m testing her!! Actually, when I wander off, I don’t go far and I come back. What’s her problem?  I just have to sniff up wherever I go and then I come. I have no problem with that.

Actually, you saw me in full race mode the other day. Well, here I am in sniff mode. I have a pretty impressive tail. At least I think so….

Jumping into the New Year

While I was at Fido’s, I perfected my jumping. There are a couple of places where this can happen: half walls into the small dog park and some of the interior doors open at the top.

What’s that, Mom? They’re Dutch doors? You must be crazy–they don’t look very Dutch to me. WHATEVER!! I’m telling this story, so I’ll call them what I want….(Mom just said I sounded like a bratty teenager. Well, what does she think I am? A dog????)

So, I jump these DUTCH doors and the half wall with no problem. They partially shut the top portion of the DUTCH doors, but I was smarter than they were! I figured out how to pull it open. Then they shut the DUTCH doors all the way. Meanies…… This is a bad picture of me coming off the wall, but you get the idea.

Mom said I was going to start agility this month! If I can jump, I think I’ll like it!!

And I think jumping to the Blog Hop is a good thing to do this New Year’s Day!! Hope you are having a good one.

Collar Chewing

This is my friend Whiffle. He’s a Silver Lab puppy and loves to play. In fact, he even got me away from my ball today, which is almost a miracle. At least that’s what my Mom says…..

We love to play neck or collar chew. Here Whiffle goes for the neck.

Then, I grab his collar.

I think we were pretty well matched!

We even played ball a bit.

I hope Whiffle comes to Fido’s (my favorite dog park) often!!

Now it’s time for the Saturday Blog Hop.

The Mudhole

We went to my favorite dog park the other day. It was GREAT! I got to run, and run and run.

Toby was running also–he was having so much fun!! And my buddy, Toby II joined in the game. Around and around we went! It was crazy!!

Of course, you know what came next, don’t you? You saw that water, right? My tail isn’t wet for nothing. There’s nothing like a good dunking in the mud. It feels soooooooo good. Of course, I know what happens when I get home….

It’s totally worth it–I’m ready to go back!!!!

A New Dog Park

It rains here in Portland. It rains a lot. And the dog park gets nasty and wet and muddy. Last spring we tried every one we could find and there was always lots of mud. Mom wouldn’t let me drink it–she said it was icky and would make me sick. But I did anyway! Then I would have to go home. Sometimes I still was rarin’ to go!

I have lots of energy–Mom is always saying she wished she could bottle it and sell it. We’d be RICH!! And let me tell you, just taking me for a walk is NOTHING. I have to run and wrestle–that’s because all that energy has to go somewhere. And my hyper-switch is still there!! Yep, it is.

So, Mom went on a quest and guess what she found?   FIDO’s!!   That’s a new indoor dog park–here in Portland. And it’s not far away! WOW, this is great! Toby and I love it. And all the humans are so nice! They even let me play in their water bowls. Well, what did they expect? They were just my size–I can get in and curl up!

They even have a big swimming pool! It’s HUGE. I haven’t been in it yet, but I will. You know how much I love water!! And you can stay there all night or you can stay there during the day without your Mom or Dad. I’ve never done that before–I wonder what it’s like? There are a bunch of dogs that do and they are always lounging around on the sofas and getting treats.

I love the grass area. I wanted to show you how big it is.

And I had it all to myself, but a bunch of dogs came later.

We got to run and wrestle! I LOVE Fido’s!!!

Mudpies and Pigpen

That's me! Laying in the mud drinking water

I love the mud. I love the water in the mud. I love dumping more water in the mud. Then I lay in it!! Then I run around some more. Mom said my middle name is Pigpen. At least it was today.

We went to Normandale Park today, one of my most favorite parks in the WHOLE world. Except for 1000 acres (Sandy River Delta park). That one has a river! No, it has two rivers. Really. But I haven’t been to the Columbia yet. And a muddy pond. See, I told you about that pond the other day! Remember?

Mom said I had to drink way up there so I couldn't make any more mud

Anyhow, Normandale doesn’t have a river or a pond. But it has water in bowls! Lots of bowls. And a water faucet where you can get more water. I love water…..

I played with a lot of dogs today. There’s always new dogs coming and then some leave. I always have someone to play with. We have so much fun wrestling and running.

That's Bernie. He's 4-months old and we had a good time playing

One dog jumped almost up into a tree and then he jumped over the big fence. His Dad said he does it all the time; runs around the track outside our play area and then comes back. I didn’t think I’d try it, especially after what I did a couple of days ago. (I ran out of my front door and across the street to Toby II’s house–remember?) Mom loves Normandale because it’s fenced and she doesn’t have to worry about me doing something crazy. Me, do something crazy? No, not me….

There are these big red bowls at Normandale. They are huge! Just the right size to put my feet in and dump over. Well, what did you expect? I was HOT. It wasn’t hot outside, but I was. I had been running and wrestling and I needed a river! So, I made my own. I dumped the water out of the bowl and then I laid down in it. I thought that was pretty smart, if I do say so myself! Some of the human people were having fun watching me! I didn’t care–I was HAPPY!!! Mom refilled the red bowl and put my feet in it. That was so nice! What a Mom!! She said I was going to have to have a bath when I got home. Ick–a bath…

Well, this was a bath like I’ve never had! She took me into the back yard, turned on the hose and washed me off. Dad held me because I thought I wasn’t going to like it, but it wasn’t too bad. Really.
