Kelley Point Park

We ventured out to a new park (for us) this week. There are some pretty high standards I look for in places to visit–specifically, a water source and somewhere to play and hike. Not too hard to fulfill where we live, but those are MY standards. Mom? She was just bored with where we normally go.

Kelley Point Park, one of the many parks maintained by the city, is right here in Portland. And water? Imagine the Willamette River meeting the Columbia River.  That’s a LOT of water!

Willamette and Columbia Rivers

Willamette and Columbia River confluence–Sauvie Island is to the left.

OMD, I was in doggy heaven and I guess those fishermen were in fish heaven out there on the river.

We found a beach and I had a most satisfying roll in some very fine sand.

Then a swim in the mighty Columbia.

Somehow all that sand fell out of my furs.

All in all, we thought it was a very fine park–four paws up! It’s a bit far from our house, but that’s okay for an adventure every once in a while.

The Smith and Bybee Lakes Wetland Park was just down the road a piece, a place we’ll save for another day.

But look what we found.

Someone was very creative!

Pet Expo

Pet Expo!

an extravaganza of doggie vendors and treats galore.

At least that’s what they say…

Now wait a minute…is this about kitties? This is one big kitty! I just hope it isn’t the kitty that jumped out at me on our walk the other day and then stalked me? That was scary!

OK, Mom. I guess I have to go inside and see…..

We saw a lot of Great Danes

and a few ferrets. They were kinda interesting. Kinda reminded me of squirrels 🙂

I thought this tortoise was pretty fascinating.

The poor guy’s shell had been damaged and the people were trying to save it.

Mom told me I had to quit sniffing it before it bit my nose!

I saw a lot of little dogs (and this Husky puppy) hoping for their forever home. Thank goodness we have a lot of no-kill shelters here.

.

When I checked out this critter, I thought the sign said “Larry the stink”. It did sorta….

.

.

And let me tell you, the treats were there. Oh, boy…I was in treat heaven, ‘cept Mom started putting them in her bag. What’s up with that??

We saw these dogs showing off their Frisbee moves. I bet they didn’t know how good I was with a ball. I’da showed ’em!!

It was time to go. The Show sponsors thought of everything! There was a special potty spot outside…just for me!and another Great Dane!

Did it Snow in Portland?

Snow is elusive, at least in my perspective. I could have been in this 4-foot snow that Mom and Dad had when they lived in Colorado. Toby told me he just stepped over the fence and decided to go exploring. That would have been fun!

Or, Maggie could have shown me how to do it when Portland DID have some snow in 2008. She LOVED snow.

But me? Well, this tells it all….(I hope you clicked).

Pretty puny, huh?
Maybe next time…

Ferns & Moss

We’re back in the forest and you can see I’m a bit wet. That’s because it’s been raining and I found a mud-puddle and Mom didn’t take a picture. But that was yesterday’s news. Today, we’re going to look at what’s growing. There’s a lot of stuff growing on trees besides leaves here in Portland. Moss is EVERYWHERE–in the grass, on the roof and on the trees. And you thought ferns grew just on the ground. Not here! They also grow on the trees!

Ivy climbs up them too–it’s considered invasive here in the Northwest.

And do you see those leaves? Those were some of the biggest maple leaves I’ve ever seen!
On our way back to the car, we went past a whole bunch of ferns–did you know those ferns are taller than me? I guess that bath I had to have was worth it. Mom says I have to stay clean for a while. She’s no fun…..

Boulder Bounding

See these big, giant rocks? There’s more to playing in a river besides swimming. I thought I’d try these boulders out for size.Caly, Tucker & I played “three men on a mountain”. Or, would that be “three dogs……..”?Up and down, we ran.You can’t catch me!I haven’t figured out how to jump off into the river. Mom says I probably wouldn’t be good at dock-diving….So, I’m just going to jump down and join everyone for the Saturday Blog Hop. How about you?

A New Swim Hole

it’s a good thing we are surrounded by rivers here in Portland. We went to a new park the other day in a town called West Linn–it was just a hop and skip down the road–and took a little walk through some woods. All of a sudden, there it was. The Willamette River. Mom sure knows how to make me happy! Swimming is becoming my favorite thing to do. Well, next to playing ball. But when you add a ball to water, what do you get! MEJust keep pitching that ball! I’m on it.I’m waiting……………

A New Dog Park

It rains here in Portland. It rains a lot. And the dog park gets nasty and wet and muddy. Last spring we tried every one we could find and there was always lots of mud. Mom wouldn’t let me drink it–she said it was icky and would make me sick. But I did anyway! Then I would have to go home. Sometimes I still was rarin’ to go!

I have lots of energy–Mom is always saying she wished she could bottle it and sell it. We’d be RICH!! And let me tell you, just taking me for a walk is NOTHING. I have to run and wrestle–that’s because all that energy has to go somewhere. And my hyper-switch is still there!! Yep, it is.

So, Mom went on a quest and guess what she found?   FIDO’s!!   That’s a new indoor dog park–here in Portland. And it’s not far away! WOW, this is great! Toby and I love it. And all the humans are so nice! They even let me play in their water bowls. Well, what did they expect? They were just my size–I can get in and curl up!

They even have a big swimming pool! It’s HUGE. I haven’t been in it yet, but I will. You know how much I love water!! And you can stay there all night or you can stay there during the day without your Mom or Dad. I’ve never done that before–I wonder what it’s like? There are a bunch of dogs that do and they are always lounging around on the sofas and getting treats.

I love the grass area. I wanted to show you how big it is.

And I had it all to myself, but a bunch of dogs came later.

We got to run and wrestle! I LOVE Fido’s!!!
