My Top 10 Fun List (Dogs Only)

My birfday is coming up–next week I’ll be 4 years old! To commemorate that momentous event, I decided to entertain you with a few stories about when I was just a lass. You know, ‘back-in-the-day’ type of stories. We all have them. And things haven’t changed much in the past 3 years. So, here we go–originally posted August 17, 2010.

I’m bored. It’s been hot for days, which means no walks during the day, no park during the day, no this, no that, not much of anything! Mom says that’s not true–we just have to do things differently. She said it’s going to cool off tomorrow–boy, am I glad! (‘cept now it’s cold and raining and raining and raining. BORING)

I’ve already told you I have LOTS of energy, so when it’s hot, I just can’t sleep all day like Toby does and I don’t know how to read yet like Mom and Dad do. So, inbetween deviling the cats and chewing my antler, I decided to list my 10 favorite things to do. I’m not sure I can even count to 10–remember I’m not even 9-months old–but I’ll try. My list is not necessarily in order. I know which is my favorite, do you?

Do you think she likes me?

10. Tease cats–I get in trouble for doing this, but it’s FUN. If they would just learn….. (Um, sometimes I still tease them…)

9. Chew my elk antler–I spend a lot of time doing this. Mom says it helps my teeth AND I don’t chew it up in 5 minutes like I do all my other toys. (my fave!)

8. School–you might say “why is this fun“? Because Mom and Dad learn stuff and I have fun! (remedial education is an ongoing thing around here, for some reason)

7. Play games–I play a lot of games, like “leave it”, “come”, “NOW”, “drop”, “off” (that one I don’t do so well), “quiet” and of course, “sit”, “down”, “wait” and “stay” (I don’t do that very well either). What I like best about games are the treats! (YEP–this is a keeper!)

6. Go to the park–I get really excited when we get in the car and Mom takes Toby & me to the park. I have LOTS of friends there that I can run and wrestle with. I especially like to go to 1000 acres park with Toby II. He’s my best friend. Mom says it’s good to be “socialized”, whatever that means. Friends teach me stuff and I teach them stuff. Like school. (1000 acres is still my fave! Others? Not so much)

Two fun things–a ball and water!

5. Play ball–I play ball at home when we can’t go out (like now). I even bring it back! Mom played ball with me in the pool today. WOW–do you know that’s two fun things in one? (well, you know the answer to this one 🙂 )

4. Walks–We do that a LOT. I sometimes get to meet Mom’s friends and I’m very good and “sit”. Sometimes I see Oz and we get to play! (my buddy Oz moved, but nothing else has changed)

3. Off-leash–Oh, wow. I LOVE this. But Mom is always in control. She’s the top dog, right? I think so. Sometimes she won’t let me run free (like when I don’t “come” right away). I always know where Mom is, but sometimes she doesn’t know where I am. She says I’m learning. That’s what school is for, right? (Mom’s still the boss here…)

2. Digging–Mom says I’m digging a hole to Croatia. They “think” they are leaving me here when they go, but won’t they be surprised when I pop up! (OMD, I just found out I was digging to Australia–not Croatia. Guess I should have looked at a map….)

1. Water–I LOVE water. Yep, I LOVE water. The river, the pool, the beach–you name it. Mom says I don’t even know about snow yet. She says that’s water too. We’ll see…. (I should have added mud here, but it’s still has that water component. Right?)

So, what do you think? Pretty good list, huh? Do you think I forgot something? Did you guess my favorite? What do you think it is?

Kittie in the Bucket-Revisited

Since Mom and Dad left us while they went off to have fun, I thought you might like some of my earlier stories:

I just don’t know why these cats won’t play with me? I try and try, but they just say I’m trying. Mornings are fun because we’re all awake and ready for fun! And breakfast.

Today, I came out and here was Mystic sitting in a bucket. Mom washed her car yesterday and there it was. It was perfect for her–just the right size. Well, let me tell you, she told me in no uncertain terms that she was going to stay in that bucket. And she did. For a long time. At least until breakfast.

Thailing, Mystic’s sister, always comes over when I’m playing with Mystic. I think she secretly wants to play too! She gets between Mystic and me and tells me to back off! Loudly. BACK OFF. Yes, Ma’am.

I sometimes listen to her.

I just wish they would play chase, like my friends at the park. Maybe cats don’t do that? What do they do for fun though? Sit in buckets? Pretty silly, huh?

Mudpies and Pigpen

That's me! Laying in the mud drinking water

I love the mud. I love the water in the mud. I love dumping more water in the mud. Then I lay in it!! Then I run around some more. Mom said my middle name is Pigpen. At least it was today.

We went to Normandale Park today, one of my most favorite parks in the WHOLE world. Except for 1000 acres (Sandy River Delta park). That one has a river! No, it has two rivers. Really. But I haven’t been to the Columbia yet. And a muddy pond. See, I told you about that pond the other day! Remember?

Mom said I had to drink way up there so I couldn't make any more mud

Anyhow, Normandale doesn’t have a river or a pond. But it has water in bowls! Lots of bowls. And a water faucet where you can get more water. I love water…..

I played with a lot of dogs today. There’s always new dogs coming and then some leave. I always have someone to play with. We have so much fun wrestling and running.

That's Bernie. He's 4-months old and we had a good time playing

One dog jumped almost up into a tree and then he jumped over the big fence. His Dad said he does it all the time; runs around the track outside our play area and then comes back. I didn’t think I’d try it, especially after what I did a couple of days ago. (I ran out of my front door and across the street to Toby II’s house–remember?) Mom loves Normandale because it’s fenced and she doesn’t have to worry about me doing something crazy. Me, do something crazy? No, not me….

There are these big red bowls at Normandale. They are huge! Just the right size to put my feet in and dump over. Well, what did you expect? I was HOT. It wasn’t hot outside, but I was. I had been running and wrestling and I needed a river! So, I made my own. I dumped the water out of the bowl and then I laid down in it. I thought that was pretty smart, if I do say so myself! Some of the human people were having fun watching me! I didn’t care–I was HAPPY!!! Mom refilled the red bowl and put my feet in it. That was so nice! What a Mom!! She said I was going to have to have a bath when I got home. Ick–a bath…

Well, this was a bath like I’ve never had! She took me into the back yard, turned on the hose and washed me off. Dad held me because I thought I wasn’t going to like it, but it wasn’t too bad. Really.

Friends

I have a lot of friends–I mean a LOT. I don’t get to play with them as much as Toby II (you know about him, right? I love Toby II), but they are still my friends. Mom says I should be well socialized. She says it’s an important part of my development and having friends is REALLY important. Whatever—I just think it’s fun. I should tell you about a few of them so you know.

I have a lot of friends from school. School was FUN. I met one yesterday at the dog park. I hadn’t seen him in a loooong time but we knew each other right away. His name is Zack and he’s a red heeler. Boy, does he like my heels–sometimes he goes under my tummy to get them. I guess that’s why Mom calls him a heeler. Zack is fun. We like to wrestle.

I met another dog at that park named Lanolin. He’s a catahoula–I bet you don’t know what that is? When we are there at the same time, we spend a lot of time together. One day, my Mom called him Linoleum. Isn’t that funny?

Oz in the Sandy

Oz lives a couple of blocks from where I live. He’s another red heeler–what’s up with this heeler business? Sometimes we go by his house and he’s outside so we can play. He has a BIG wading pool and one time I got to play in it. Ahhhhh, that was so much fun! That was before I was a fountain.

One time Oz went to the Sandy River with us. He likes the water too, but not as much as me. Did you know that? I told you…….

Remember the story about Kuma? He was in the parade. He’s a Siberian Husky that lives not too far from me. Mom and Dad take me over to play with him–he has a big yard. We run and run around the yard. Kuma has bones in his yard–I wish I had bones in my yard. He let me chew on one and I let him chew on it. We shared! Sharing is fun. Mom says not all dogs would share their bones–she said Kuma and I were good dogs. I like that!

Mom says we have play dates. I hope we have one of those play dates soon. I love Kuma!

And there’s Carter and Gobi and a whole lot more. I could go on and on, but I guess I need a nap……
