How I love to Procrastinate

OR, let’s wait a bit. I keep telling Mom that a little pressure is OK. Deep breath now…
Mom–you take over now. OK?

Here we go!!

1. When did you begin your blog?

I started this journey July 27, 2010–interestingly, it was the day after my birthday. Not that it was of any significance.

2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog?

Sage was new to our family and the idea of immortalizing her life’s journey was something I wanted to do. Our wonderful Aussie/Border Collie Maggie had gone over the Rainbow Bridge in January of that year and those memories were only captured on film. Well, digital. Writing is not something I had done during my career as an accountant (at least not that type) and I thought I’d give it a try. What could I lose? And I had the time!!

3. Is your current purpose the same?

Yes, essentially it is. Sage has so much energy and keeps me active. We have a story to tell!

If not, what’s different?

There’s not much difference in what I started out to do. I’ve added a lot of photos and am working on being a better photographer (of sorts), so maybe that’s different. No matter how old you get, it never hurts to learn new skills.

If so, how do you feel you’ve met your goals?

I never expected to enjoy blogging, but it’s something I’ve found quite enjoyable. I didn’t set any goals, as I had never done anything like this before. But as time went on, I wanted to grow my site and looked at various ways to do it. I joined some blog groups; participated in blog hops; kept adding to my list of sites I follow and made it a point to reach out to them. So, in essence, I’ve exceeded my original intent.

4. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you?

I blogged a lot at first (4-5 times a week), but I decided trying to follow a set schedule of multiple posts a week was not important (at least to me).

If the former, how often — and what techniques do you use to stick to it?

I’m trying to get at least two blogs posted each week. Along with visits to the many blogs I follow. Sage often has something to say, if only about her latest mud-wallow (which is something she loves, and I tolerate), and there’s always something going on! I think it’s good to keep a dialogue going fairly regularly to keep an interest in my site.

If the latter, do you worry about… well, whatever you might worry about (e.g. losing traffic, losing momentum)?

I don’t really worry about it. I hope I can write enough interesting posts to keep people coming to see what Sage is up to next.

5. Are you generating income from your blog?

No. I’ve had several offers, but it’s not my thing.

If not currently, do you hope to in the future — and how?

I guess if something comes along that really interests me, and something I believe in, I might promote a product.

6. What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular (bragging is good!)?

Blogging gives me the personal satisfaction that I’m letting Sage tell her story through her eyes (or how I would imagine she would think about something). I try to keep it upbeat and steer away from controversial topics. There’s enough of that in the news every day! Her Muddy Mondays have been quite a hit and there is no end to the mud puddles where we live–at least 9 months of the year.  She takes to mud and water like no dog I’ve ever seen, so I might as well capitalize on it! It may mean a bath, but she’s learned to step into the tub when we get home and get cleaned off. I think she actually enjoys it!

But, most of all, I have enjoyed everyone I’ve met in all parts of the world who have a common love of their pets. What a wonderful experience!

7. What do you like least?

Not much. I use the free WordPress site and have thought about going to a paid one but haven’t justified the price as yet. It might make some things easier.

8. How do you see your blog changing/growing in 2012?

I hope to continue as I have, although I have joined a Triberr.com tribe to see how my blog can grow. That should be pretty exciting and new technology I can learn. So, stay tuned!!

  1. Sage, what a good interviewer you are! You can tell your Mom from me that I think she does a super blog, and next time she comes to visit, I will allow her to give me a tummy rub. Mmmmm!

  2. O Muddy One, I can’t take my eyes of that wallowing pig [sorry dog]. Sage walks into the tub for a wash? How clever is that?

I’ve always loved the simplicity of your posts. Nothing to sob over or get huffy about, just entertainment and good for a giggle. Sometimes, when I find myself writing a controversial post [or commenting on one], believe it or not…this is TRUE! …I think of you. Yes, I’ve noticed you’re not part of that crowd ;p It’s a peaceful happy place you’ve created 🙂 Well done!

  6. Is it possible that pup is part pig?? =D I’m so glad to meet another accountant in this crazy world of pet blogging. I find the topics here are much more interesting than LIFO and FIFO. Thanks for participating in the challenge, and much luck to you in 2012.

  8. Love that muddy picture of Sage! However, I wouldn’t be to thrilled about the bath afterwards. I’ve been hearing about Triberr, but I don’t really know too much about it. I think understanding Triberr will have to be one of my goals for 2012! Best of luck to you in the new year!
