New Beginnings

Toby’s been gone a month now, so I decided it was time to try some new things.

We went over to see my furiends Macy & Toby II and there were some well chewed-on beef rib bones lying around from their dinner. There wasn’t much left of them, but they seemed enticing. Actually, downright flavorful and so enticing that I even turned down a bully stick (I had my heart set on chewing one of those bones). So, I traded Toby II my bully stick for one of his beef bones.

Mom brought a fresh one home and gave it to me for dinner. Mind you, I don’t eat raw very often. I’m a bit picky about my food, you see. I do love marrow bones, but this was something new.

I do WHAT with this?

Mom said it was raw meat. It seems I had no idea what to do with something that smelled like that, but I had to figure it out all by myself now. I can’t go hide under the desk when Mom brings out something new and wait for Toby to show me the way. I know I can do it…Toby taught me a lot.

So, Mom cut off some juicy parts and they tasted pretty good! I think I get it, Mom!Except I woke up early, early the next morning with a tummy-ache and I then threw up. I think I’ll stick to the occasional marrow bone….

My next foray into new things was to try Toby’s bed. I always have slept on Mom & Dad’s bed, but….why not?I sorta like it and this wasn’t scary (like that bone).

Now, at bedtime, my new thing is to start out here. On Toby’s bed.

But I still have to get up on the big bed later in the night.

I know I’ll have more adventures into trying new things. I’m just glad I had a good teacher!

  1. Oh sweet Sage, I’m so sorry you got sicky from your bone. It’s tough starting anew when your best friend leaves you, but you are doing a wonderful job. Yes, you were trained so very well. Enjoy Toby’s bed!

  2. OMG, Sage, I am SO sorry my bone made you sick. Me and Macy never get sick from them. They are our favoritist things to eat (of course we like turkey legs and other goodies, too). But I will happily share my bones and bully sticks with you any old time.

  3. Awwwe! You did have a good teacher Sage! I’m sure Toby would love you using his bed before bed (did that sound right?) LOL! Freddie Spaghetti can’t eat raw either or he does the same thing as you, throws up!

  5. Sage, you are just so sweet to be trying new things now that Toby isn’t here to teach you. We bet Toby is really smiling down at how good you are doing. We don’t do well with new foods either, very touchy tummies, but we really do enjoy a good marrow bone if Mom could only find some big enough for us.

We bet Toby left you lots of good vibes on that bed – and more smile from above.

  6. Toby sure was a great teacher. Now, I can only imagine what great use you will put all of his lesson toward. I am sure you will have many many adventures of your own. And maybe even go on to teach some great things to a younger pup in the future.

  7. Oh. Transitions. Sweet and sad.

The first time Georgia had a raw bone, she had a bad tum too. I persevered giving her raw food just because I want her to be able to tolerate a range of foods. Her diet is half raw now and I notice that on days when she eats bones, her poop is actually much better! Nice and hard. Hope you’re not having dinner or brekkie while reading this :p

As for the bed, Georgia’s are all hand me downs too. I think I’m more emotional about them than she is. So many memories attached to them.

    Big hugs x

  8. This post made me happy and sad. As I’m sure it did you while you were writing it. Sage, you’re very lucky indeed that Toby was such a good teacher. Bella has taught Beary so much too and interestingly enough, as much as Bella loves bones, Beary can’t have more than a little one or he gets an upset tummy too. Big kiss for the top of your gorgeous fuzzy head! x

  12. Dear Sage, it’s not easy to be without Toby! Great idea to sleep in his bed – at least for a while! I can’t eat much bones because I get also stomach ache and that’s not fun. We cook now chicken every day for little Foxy so we all are eating chicken! Hugs from Nero

  13. Hi Y’all,

Thanks for stoppin’ to visit me!

Mom’s are special in helping us learn stuff. Once I came to live with my Humans I never had any buddies to play with or help me. I’ve always just counted on my Humans. I know it can’t be easy for you, but don’t worry…you and your humans will grow a deeper relationship.

Hope y’all have a great Memorial Day weekend!

  14. I love that you’re using Toby’s bed, Sage! And how fun is that to have two beds?! That’s the life, girl! I bet Toby is real proud of you for trying new things, even if they don’t always turn out for the best in the end.

Hey, how about these thunderstorms the past couple of days?! Hope they don’t make you nervous. Mason doesn’t like them too much but at least they’re passing through quickly.

  15. Sage is such a strong & sweet girl. I bet she loved that rib bone just the same even after getting sick. Sickness has not deterred Desmond from going after chicken bones like he’s been starving and deprived his entire life. Silly doggies!
