My Top 10 Fun List (Dogs Only)

My birfday is coming up–next week I’ll be 4 years old! To commemorate that momentous event, I decided to entertain you with a few stories about when I was just a lass. You know, ‘back-in-the-day’ type of stories. We all have them. And things haven’t changed much in the past 3 years. So, here we go–originally posted August 17, 2010.

I’m bored. It’s been hot for days, which means no walks during the day, no park during the day, no this, no that, not much of anything! Mom says that’s not true–we just have to do things differently. She said it’s going to cool off tomorrow–boy, am I glad! (‘cept now it’s cold and raining and raining and raining. BORING)

I’ve already told you I have LOTS of energy, so when it’s hot, I just can’t sleep all day like Toby does and I don’t know how to read yet like Mom and Dad do. So, inbetween deviling the cats and chewing my antler, I decided to list my 10 favorite things to do. I’m not sure I can even count to 10–remember I’m not even 9-months old–but I’ll try. My list is not necessarily in order. I know which is my favorite, do you?

Do you think she likes me?

10. Tease cats–I get in trouble for doing this, but it’s FUN. If they would just learn….. (Um, sometimes I still tease them…)

9. Chew my elk antler–I spend a lot of time doing this. Mom says it helps my teeth AND I don’t chew it up in 5 minutes like I do all my other toys. (my fave!)

8. School–you might say “why is this fun“? Because Mom and Dad learn stuff and I have fun! (remedial education is an ongoing thing around here, for some reason)

7. Play games–I play a lot of games, like “leave it”, “come”, “NOW”, “drop”, “off” (that one I don’t do so well), “quiet” and of course, “sit”, “down”, “wait” and “stay” (I don’t do that very well either). What I like best about games are the treats! (YEP–this is a keeper!)

6. Go to the park–I get really excited when we get in the car and Mom takes Toby & me to the park. I have LOTS of friends there that I can run and wrestle with. I especially like to go to 1000 acres park with Toby II. He’s my best friend. Mom says it’s good to be “socialized”, whatever that means. Friends teach me stuff and I teach them stuff. Like school. (1000 acres is still my fave! Others? Not so much)

Two fun things–a ball and water!

5. Play ball–I play ball at home when we can’t go out (like now). I even bring it back! Mom played ball with me in the pool today. WOW–do you know that’s two fun things in one? (well, you know the answer to this one 🙂 )

4. Walks–We do that a LOT. I sometimes get to meet Mom’s friends and I’m very good and “sit”. Sometimes I see Oz and we get to play! (my buddy Oz moved, but nothing else has changed)

3. Off-leash–Oh, wow. I LOVE this. But Mom is always in control. She’s the top dog, right? I think so. Sometimes she won’t let me run free (like when I don’t “come” right away). I always know where Mom is, but sometimes she doesn’t know where I am. She says I’m learning. That’s what school is for, right? (Mom’s still the boss here…)

2. Digging–Mom says I’m digging a hole to Croatia. They “think” they are leaving me here when they go, but won’t they be surprised when I pop up! (OMD, I just found out I was digging to Australia–not Croatia. Guess I should have looked at a map….)

1. Water–I LOVE water. Yep, I LOVE water. The river, the pool, the beach–you name it. Mom says I don’t even know about snow yet. She says that’s water too. We’ll see…. (I should have added mud here, but it’s still has that water component. Right?)

So, what do you think? Pretty good list, huh? Do you think I forgot something? Did you guess my favorite? What do you think it is?

Romp in the Park

Wow, what a change out at 1000 Acres! The trees are all leafed out and the grass is green–well, it was longer….. Anyway, the picture on the left was taken April 1!

But, don’t worry, The mud’s still there! Mom got some great new Sloggers for Mother’s Day from her hu-son and daughter-in-law. They KNOW what Mom needs! Just the ticket for a cute, sweet, loveable mud-loving dog like me! (I’m not modest, you see. Dogs tell it like they see it.)See those little flowers? They’re probably a weed, but that’s OK. The 3 musketeers (Caly, Tucker and I) loved racing in that tall grass. You never know what’s over the next hill! We’re all about the same age, but Caly can only catch me if she grabs my tail! She’s pretty careful, though. I haven’t lost any hair yet! We were one big blur here!Of course, we have to find some water. What’s 1000 Acres if there isn’t water! My favorite pond is going down though. Pretty soon we might be able to actually go to the river! Mom won’t let me now–she says it’s too dangerous. What does she know?????

I found a ball and you know what that means. BALL TIME! They threw it out into the water and I was having the best time swimming out after it. See my wake? Sophie makes great wakes too! She’s got an orange ball–I just got a left-over, crushed up ball that I had to find and I (all by myself, don’t ya know) magically turned it into a round perfect ball!! But a orangey ball like Sophie’s would have been nice. MOMMMMMMMMMCaly and Tucker decided I had to do all the work when it comes to swimming. You notice THEY barely got in to their tummies. Tucker moved in for my grand entrance back to shore. It’s nice to have such a great welcoming committee!!

Muddy Monday

Wow! We had fun, fun, fun on our weekend adventure to mud-ville. Well, I did, at least. After a little romp in the first mud-puddle I found, there has to be a roll in the dirt. Oh, right, gravel. SORRY, Mom….

We had quite a lot of rain this past week, so 1000 Acres was full of new water attractions. Kaly and I made short work of this one.

Then on to a bigger pond. I thought this fence was a nice addition! I don’t think it’s suppose to be in the water.

I was shaking up the water by now. With a stick in my mouth too! But, please note the mud in the foreground. We moved on to another new wet place. Of course, I was right in the middle of it (Please look closely at my nose). Mom just sighs and knows what’s coming. But, I’m oblivious to it all. Mud, I think, is my middle name.

Stay tuned! There’s more to this adventure to come!!

Me and My Ball

There are two things I’m totally obsessed about–water and a ball. You ALL know about my water obsession. It’s probably a good thing we don’t have a pool in our back yard!! And, mud is just water and dirt–but I bet you knew that.

I haven’t talked much about my ball obsession, but when I go to my favorite indoor dog park–Fido’s–that’s what I do most of the time. If one of my friends are there and I’m in the mood, we wrestle and run, but generally it ends up with ball. Mom even went on strike, but I know how to look at her just right. 🙂

The other day, we went to Mt. Tabor dog park. The last time, I ended up really muddy and didn’t do great about staying inside the dog park, so Mom went prepared this time. Two balls and the plan to leash me up while we went over the area where the mud-puddle prevails. Those balls were GREAT! We had fun–Mom threw. I brought it back.

We sorta got near some mud here and you remember I said Mom leashed me up over the place where the big mud-puddle was? It worked the first time around, but she must think I’m some kind of dumb dog. On our second loop and the minute we were past that area and she let me off my leash, well, Kaly (one of my BFF) and I made a bee-line for the mud-puddle. We wallowed, we wrestled, I laid down in it, then we wallowed and wrestled some more. I kinda heard Mom saying something, but we were having too much fun.

Mom, the lousy photographer that she can be sometimes, took a bad movie of Kaly and I racing and playing after we got the message to “GET OUT OF THAT MUD-PUDDLE”. About half-way through this “lousy” movie, you can see the glory of all the mud on my body!

I KNOW what happens next, but this time Mom fooled me. There was a hose near the gate to the dog park and she washed me off! Can you believe that? She told me she was going to take Hawk’s advise and tie me to the back of the car otherwise. Then she took a towel to me when we did get back to the car. She said there was no way I was getting in her car until most of that mud was gone. Geez. She’s no fun….

Actually, I have a really nice Mom. She knows how much I love water and thinks dogs should be dogs sometimes. And Kelpies LOVE water–I guess it’s in my blood. So, what’s a little clean-up? I’m getting used to it…..

I’m ready for a Blog Hop after all that. How about you?

Chapter 3: On to the Pond

I had all this planned so that you could hear about my adventures at 1000 Acres last weekend–sorta like a book. With chapters. And I blew it because I JUST had to show you that picture yesterday of me in the pond. Yes, it’s the middle of winter. And yes, it was 32 degrees F. and colder than cold. And double yes, I’m CRAZY ABOUT WATER, so who cares!

So, that’s that. But, I liked that picture. I was a fountain!! Again. But, you want to hear my story, right? Chapter 3. Here goes…

We got out of the brambles and arrived at a meadow.
We’ve had lots of rain this year. LOTS of rain. But it wasn’t raining this day! There is a pond at 1000 Acres that was a mudpit last summer. Now it was full. And, I mean F-U-L-L! Now, you know me, I beat Mom there and had already gone in. Well, you saw that yesterday anyhow.

I zoomed around the pond.

Back in–with my buddy Toby II!

Then I rolled a little in the dried marsh grasses.

But, I still liked being a fountain!

I’m pretty good at that, huh?

Oh, and I did get a bit dirty……

The Mudhole

We went to my favorite dog park the other day. It was GREAT! I got to run, and run and run.

Toby was running also–he was having so much fun!! And my buddy, Toby II joined in the game. Around and around we went! It was crazy!!

Of course, you know what came next, don’t you? You saw that water, right? My tail isn’t wet for nothing. There’s nothing like a good dunking in the mud. It feels soooooooo good. Of course, I know what happens when I get home….

It’s totally worth it–I’m ready to go back!!!!

River Fun

I love going to the river, but I bet you know that already. Mada (a Scottish Deerhound) was there and we had such a good time running and playing. She doesn’t like the water as much as I do, but that’s OK.

I thought I was pretty ferocious in this picture, but Mada was just checking to see if I had sand in my mouth.

Of course, I HAD to get totally wet again and what do all good dogs do when they are wet? Roll!!!!

I bet you can’t guess what I had when I got home?
